About the Artist:

Otto Kirchner began his artistic studies in 1908/09 at a private drawing school in Düsseldorf, continued his education in Italy in 1910/11 and finally studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1912 to 1914 under Martin Feuerstein, the painter responsible for the religious subject at the time. After 1918, Kirchner mainly painted small-format genre paintings such as Old Man Reading a Letter with Pen Behind His Ear, Portrait of a Seated Peasant in Traditional Costume, Reading Cardinal or Wine Drinker with Cigar. His paintings were exhibited in Munich’s Glaspalast, among other venues.
