About the Artist:
Gustav Prucha was born in Vienna in 1875 and trained under the Austrian painter Joseph Eugen Hörwarter. Following in the footsteps of his teacher, Prucha painted many genre scenes, specializing in the depiction of chariot races and horse-drawn sleigh rides in predominantly sunny winter landscapes. He also studied at the Academy in Prague and traveled extensively for his studies, including to Hungary and Croatia, but also to the Netherlands. In the United States, he worked under the pseudonym “John Harway”.
