About the Artist:
Emil Barbarini was born in Vienna in 1855 and lived there until 1930. His father was the landscape painter Franz Barbarini. He learned to paint landscapes from him. The latter’s style influenced Emil at the beginning of his artistic career. He quickly developed his own style, which was very different from his father’s conception of art. In addition to landscapes, his motifs included lively market scenes from Vienna, Krems and other Austrian and foreign cities. Inspired by the French, he deliberately repeated the same motifs to capture the mood of light at different times of the day. He eliminated contrasting effects in favour of harmonious colouring.
